Our Wines

Cortem Wine Display Our wine blends are still very much in the experimental stage and finding the most interesting blends is still a work in process. However 6 Blends ( see*) have emerged that we will make every year and in the following years to come we will add new ones. Our prime aim is to make wines where one can recognise, and enjoy the different grape varieties and the Cortém taste and so one variety usually predominates

Red Wines

Cortém Jaen* - award winner - Silver Medal IWC 2011

The grape which gives its name to this wine is better known in the dao region where it is used to mix with Touriga nacional and other varieties. On its own it has a very special flavour and makes a light but distinctive wine with flavours of smoke and chocolate, to enjoy by itself or with food. It can also be drunk well cooled like a rosè, and for this reason we call it our " Tinto Verao" "Summer wine". The belnd is about 80% Jaen 20% Touriga Nacional.

Cortém Touriga Nacional / Aragones

This wine which we call "Luis" is a Cuvée of Aragonez and Touriga Nacional. Grown just in one field called "luis". Full bodied clean and delicious, it is a statement of the Cortém Terroir and a wine to be drunk any day with any food.

Cortém Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot* - award winner - Bronze Medal IWC 2011

This wine is rich and heavy with the taste of cabernet sauvignon predominating, almost too stron for food we call it our fireside wine! Can be drunk young but will improve with age, First year 2009.

Petit Verdot / Merlot

Our fireside wine ... this wine not only very strong but full of new and exciting aromas and tastes. Strong tannins and balanced acidity make it a good keeping wine, but great to drink now as well!

Cortém Syrah

This wine is made only from our Syrah and Petit Syrah grapes and makes a 'full bodied' red liked by all. Syrah afficionados will like this wine, it is not too heavy but the distinctive Syrah taste is easy to recognise and enjoy. The Syrah is not yet bottled.

White Wine

Cortém Sauvignon Blanc / Viognier*

We bottled our first 500 litres of 2010 vintage in 2011 year and the wine is unique. It was a late harvest and the slow fermentation was not finished until January 2011. The result is a very heavy wine, over 15% Alcohol but with little remaining sugar. Typical but subtle tastes and aromas of Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc. Must be served very cold and is ideal as an aperitiv or as a dessert wine.

Cortém Pinot Noir 2010 - These vines are still very young, but we made 300 litres form the young vines with a late harvest in 2010. These few bottles will be available as of October 2011, prepare for a surprise as people who try it from the tank always ask when it will be ready!
